In the game of Blackjack, a hard hand is basically a hand with no Ace. There are a lot of strategies you can use to play Blackjack hard hands, including the detailed Blackjack matrix designed for certain table rules. In this article, we are going to discuss several basics of playing Blackjack hard hands and go through simple playing tips that are easy to understand.

The basic rule of thumb when you are playing blackjack hard hands is to hit when the hand total is 8 or less. Do this no matter what open card the dealer is showing, since a hand of 8 or less is certainly not good enough to win the round.

If you have a nine, you should double only when the dealer’s open card is showing a 3, 4, 5, or 6. Since the possibility of scoring strong hand is quite high, you can actually double your profit this way. The same rule can be applied to a hand totaling at 10 as well, but you can also double down when the dealer’s open card is showing a 2, 7, 8, or 9. Also double down when your hand total is 11 and the dealer’s open card is showing any of those cards plus 10 or any of the face cards. Simply hit if the dealer’s open card is showing anything else.

If you have a hand total of 12 to 16, stand if the dealer’s open card is between 4 to 6 and hit otherwise. Always hit if your hand total is 17 or more.
